Check the rules first

Read your housing rules before you plug in a router or a mini fridge. Campus Wi-Fi is usually what you get, so put your money into the laptop and the headphones.

One laptop for class and games

You’ll carry it, so weight and battery count. The Acer Nitro V 16S AI has 32GB of RAM and a 76Wh battery, per Acer, and weighs 4.55 lb, per Tom’s Hardware. The Lenovo LOQ Essential costs less, but its RTX 5060 is capped at 65W and it ships with one RAM stick, per Lenovo.

Noise canceling is a study tool

PCMag found the Sony WH-1000XM6 blocks more noise in tough spots. The Bose QC Ultra is softer on the head for long sessions. Neither makes a dorm silent. Both make it bearable.

The small stuff

A wireless mouse keeps the desk clear. The Logitech G305 runs on one AA, rated for 250 hours by Logitech. Bring a small power strip. Dorm outlets are never where you need them.
